The ‘i’ outlook

Gen x-i definition:

‘i’ out look stands for ‘i, me, myself, outlook’, ‘internet generation outlook’, ‘international outlook’.

Who has it?

Most likely the younger ones.

In Japan, there is a new trend of introducing foreign teachers into the kindergartens.  According to the principal of a suburban Japanese kindergarten,  in order to inculcate amongst the young an ‘international outlook’, it is important to simulate in the school environment, constant (student) interaction with people (teachers) with ‘different hair colour’ and who speak in a foreign tongue.  This means in the context of a predominantly Asian Japanese environment, the introduction of Australian (and English-speaking Japanese) teachers who conduct lessons in English.

Now what of ‘internet generation’ and ‘i, me, myself’?

If indeed the Net can facilitate cross-boundary and -cultural interaction, will the ‘virtual’ supersede the ‘real’ in facilitating global citizenship?

Methinks it’s possible, yet why do I harbour this sense of nostalgia for the real and physical, and also a sense of impending loss of my treasured individuality?
